about
Originally a piano ballad on The Memoirs of a Poolside Romance EP (2015), "Understanding" has been revamped and remastered in a full-band version and is the newest release from Daniel Rylander.
"'Understanding' is an important song to me because I feel that it embodies the message of not letting our mistakes define who we are as people, but rather learning from them and moving on to become more positive, and more understanding of our situation and the situations of others. This past year was rough for me personally, and I've learned to be more sensitive to the environments around me and not be so quick to pass judgment based on what I think, feel, or see simply because I wouldn't want the same done to me. Our society on a whole is in such critical need of change, and for me, I choose to love and be more understanding in hopes to do what I can to inspire that change. I look forward to beginning 2017 with a fresh outlook, and making 'Understanding' my mantra for this year. All that I can hope to do is encourage you to think for yourself and ask that you remember to treat others as you would want to be treated."
Daniel will be starting in a new direction this year as he begins to implement more of the band [Daniel & the Best Dressed], as well as take a more stylistic approach to his music. He hopes to do more to promote this new brand as well as tour in 2017.
lyrics
I've been to my share of one too many funerals,
And I can't replace the ones you love.
I fell for the chase and not for the one I was chasing,
Oh, and you'll learn to hate what I become.
And I could tell you anything you wanted to hear,
But the truth is all you need.
And I could try,
To pull myself down from the heights of the attic.
I'm so high,
I'm not a bad guy I just got my bad habits,
You could try to be understanding.
I held that girl close and told her that I loved her,
As we lay there kissing in the dark.
I hate to be the one to bring up incandescence,
But I can't seem to find my...
Sparks, I said that I would and I'll try but forget it,
I see stars;
Forgot my head in the clouds,
Memory is pathetic.
I'm so high, so be understanding.
